There is a option on the setup page to disable 3D preview generation. It is probably disabled.

I am sure that preview is enabled.

Preview seems to work for me on v2591, however interestingly some of my previews seem clipped on the top....looking back this is not new...like they are all pushed up.
Like the center of the view is not the center of the image.  I notice it more in models that are taller than they are wide,
